On Monday, January 19, 2015, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, surrounded by members of her loving family.
Kaye was born in Sydney on December 9, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Emma (MacLeod) Ross.
In June 1941, Kaye graduated from Sydney Academy and following graduation, went to Normal Teacher's College in Truro. After graduation, Kaye began teaching at a variety of schools within the Cape Breton district (Catalone, Old Central School, Woodill and Sydney Academy). Throughout her teaching years, Kaye continued her studies at Xavier University during the summers. In 1961, she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. Kaye then decided to take her career even further and in 1967, she graduated with her Masters of Education. In 1977, Kaye retired from Woodill Junior High School.
Kaye married Ray MacLeod in June 1973. They spent many years travelling abroad, winters in Florida and summers at their cottage on the Mira River. Ray and Kaye were active members of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney and the Sydney Y’s Men and Y’s Menettes Club. They cherished their time at all family gatherings and took delight in the growth and achievements of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Willard MacLeod, her sister, Elizabeth Roberta 'Bette' Bauer and her great- granddaughter, Allyson Grace Plumridge.
Left to celebrate her life are her sons and daughters, Keith (Barbara), Bedford, Marilyn (George) Plumridge, Coxheath, David (Patricia), Marion Bridge, Barry (Judy), Bedford, and Sharon (Mike) MacDonald, Sydney Forks. Kaye (Nan) will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jennifer (David) St. Onge – their children, Lauren and Jack; Bradley (Rhonda) MacLeod -their children, Fiona and Libby; Krista (Rorri) Currie – their children, Jillian and Liam; Raylene (Blair DeJeet) – their children, Justin and Courtney; Andrew (Michelle) Plumridge; Stephen (Heather) Plumridge – their children, Patrick, Alexandra and Sarah; Cindy (Eric) Morneau – their children, Tyler, Elizabeth, Emily, Jeremy and Noah; Kari (Bernie) MacDonald – their children, Caleb and Clara; Shawn (Le Hoa) MacLeod; Alison (Stephen) MacLean – their children, Breagh and Ciaran; Shannon (Craig) Sutherland – their children, Olivia and Reid. Kaye is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday 2-3:30 p.m., with a service to follow in the chapel at 4 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
