We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Edith Penney. She died peacefully at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Victoria Village, NL, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Clark) Lambert.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom was a strong and determined lady who devoted her life to caring for her family. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Brian (Joan), Kevin (Valerie) and Stephen; daughters, Linda (John) Tobias, Gladys (John Allen) Johnston, Catherine (Keith) Roach, and Jocelyn Royer (Len Hatfield); son-in-law Albert Gould; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband Samuel, daughter Cindy Gould, and great-grandson Sam Tobias. She was also predeceased by her brothers, George (Sadie), Ike (Dorothy), Bernie (Margaret), Bill (Winnie), Bruce (Annie), and Reg (Catherine); and sisters, Margaret (Jack) Holdcraft and Gladys (Eugene) Walker.
Edith was a member of the LOBA Lodge of Nova Scotia. She was a gifted seamstress and baker and will be fondly remembered for the special birthday and wedding cakes she made for her family and friends.
Visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. A celebration of Edith’s life will take place Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, 2 p.m., at Newsom United Church, 15 Dominion St., Glace Bay.
Memorial donations can be made to Roger’s House in memory of Sam Tobias (www.rogershouse.ca), the Canadian Diabetes Association, or to a charity of one’s choice.
