Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 21, 2015, at the age of 80. Born on July 31, 1934 in Portsmouth, England, Harold was a proud Yorkshireman and served his country as a member of the Royal Air Force. He built a life in Newfoundland working in the steel industry, was an accomplished gardener, and a true gentleman. Harold is predeceased by his father Harold; mother Gladys; brothers Robert, Ronald and Gordon; and nephew Robert. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife June (nee Parsons) (Gatehouse); daughter Virginia Sturge (Gerald) and son Kenneth Gatehouse (Michele); his four "angels" - granddaughters Heidi, Rebecca, Olivia and Emily (Sturge); his sister Patricia Tindale (Raymond) of Yorkshire, England; sister-in-law Rona (Robert deceased) of Southampton, England; and several nephews and nieces in Canada, United States and England. Harold will also be sadly missed by his "furry four-legged (canine) friends" Molly & Tess. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John's. Visitation will take place from 2- 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday). A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 4 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel.
