Florence Parsons

Passed on: January 21st, 2015

It's with heavy hearts but gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Florence (Wheeler) Parsons, of St. John's after a valiant 16 month battle with cancer. She passed Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at home from the arms of her daughters and husband and into the waiting arms of her dear mother, Margaret. She is predeceased by her mother, Margaret (Rice) Wheeler (1995) and little sister Geraldine as well as in-laws Harold James and Mary (Thompson) Parsons, Little Ruth, Betty Cowan, Gladys O'Rear, Marjorie Collins-Roberts, Doug Parsons and Robert Parsons. Leaving to carry on her legacy are her father Gerald Wheeler (Margaret deceased), devoted husband and "Handsome Prince" George W., and her strong, independent daughters of whom she was so proud, Holly Noftall (Blair), and Meghan Hodych (Sam) as well as her pride and joy, her grandchildren Owen and "Mommy Flossie's baby" Elise as well as her family by her daughters' marriages, Barry Noftall (Linda deceased) and Dr. Joseph and Carolyn Hodych. Leaving to celebrate her life are her siblings: Licia Cantwell (Fred, Lyrssa & Jason), Ian Wheeler (Sonya and her special boy, Colin) and Patsy Bowman (Veral). Also leaving to mourn her in-laws Harold (Georgina deceased), Tim (Betty), Hazel (Bob deceased), Ruth, Elsie (Doug deceased) and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially Annetta Power, Sheila Taylor, Donna Stokes-Lane and Vivian Pomeroy. She had so much joy, humour and zest for life to share with all she met. Her hunting stories, "flosaphy", and sense of humour are her legacy. A special thank you to Dr. Stephen Lee, Dr. Jehann Siddiqui, Dr. Noreen Fardy, Nurse April Adams and all the staff and nurses at the Cancer Clinic, St. Clare's and HSC for their exceptional care of such a special lady. Arrangements entrusted to Barrett's Funeral Home. At her request, cremation has taken place and a private, family inurnment will take place at a later date. After her cancer diagnosis aka. "Her blip on the highway of life", Mom never worried about herself. She downplayed her struggles with humour and jokes and her only concern was her loved ones and friends and how we were coping. She wrote this pledge and lived it every day right until the end: I won"t let cancer take away the Joy and the Love that is ME. It won"t take away my Zest for Life, my Laugh, my Fun, and my "Live Life Now". Cancer may take my Life but, it won't take ME. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre to continue her fight to "kick Cancer's butt". We love you, Mom.
