Verna  Matheson

Verna Gertrude Matheson, 91 of Stellarton passed away January 20, 2015 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late David and Jessie (Johnson) Roblee.
Verna was a resident of Stellarton for most of her life with the exception of a number of years spent in Cape Breton during her childhood.
She was an active member of Sharon St. John United Church in her earlier years, and a life member of the UCW. She worked for Dr. Loomer in Stellarton in her younger years, going on to work for H.R. Doane’s for over 20 years.
Verna was active in her community volunteering for many organizations throughout the years, including the Clan Matheson, former CGIT leader, the Cancer Clinic, the former Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Blood Services, the UCW, as well as helping seniors complete their taxes.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Sylvia Shaw of Lunenburg; a nephew, two nieces and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband John J. Matheson and a sister Edna.
Cremation to take place. There will be no visitation by request.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton with Anne Hoganson presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Verna may be made to the Sharon St. John United Church.
At this time the family would like to extend a sincere thank you to her caregiver Carol Nugent who spent the past several years caring for Verna, also to Alice, Rosalie, Alma and Rita. As well special thanks to Dr. Kirk, Dr. Farrell and staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, and the Pictou County VON.
