MRS. EMILY PANAS
Emily Panas passed away following a courageous battle with cancer at the Victoria Hospital the early morning of Thursday, January 22, 2015. She was born on January 11, 1933 in Milan, Poland and immigrated to the Henribourg area in 1936. She took her schooling at the Begin School, where she learnt English and French, leaving school after grade 6 to help raise her siblings. She met Walter Panas at the Met store in Prince Albert in 1949. They were married in August of 1950 and settled in the Lepine area where they farmed until 1957. They then relocated to Spruce Home to raise their children and farmed til 1975 at which time they retired to Prince Albert. Emily worked off the farm as a cook from 1968 until The Bay closed. Never one to be idle, Emily then became a Nanny for many children over the next few decades. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, watching Young and The Restless and helping her family and community. Emily is survived by her children Helen Brassard, Marilyn (Bob) Wicker, Susan (Dixon) Manu, Karl (Val), Tony (Josie); her grandchildren Keith (Louise) Jones, Jenny (Louis) Halbegewachs, Nicole (Casey) Zakowsky, Scott Wicker, Kelly (Sharen) Brassard, Holly Evans, Greg (Ashley) Panas, Robert Wicker; her cats Buffy, Max and Cindy; her siblings Jean (Vic) Hnidek, Anne Kochanski, Walter Holomiczek. She was predeceased her husband Walter; her cat Mitze and her twin brother Russel. Special thanks to the Prince Albert Home Care Palliative staff Michelle, Brian and Flo, and to Nadine and Fran who were a great comfort on Emily’s final night. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 27 from Calvary United Church, 114 – 25 Street East. Reverend Nora Vedress will officiate. Interment will take place in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorial donations may do so to the Prince Albert SPCA or charity of the donor’s choice.
