It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the passing of Catherine Robina 'Beanie' Burt, on January 22, 2015 at the Glace Bay General Hospital with loving family at her side.
Born in Belleoram NFLD, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude (Munden) Cluett.
After the tragic SS Caribou sinking in 1942 which took the lives of her mother and 2 youngest sisters, (Abigail and Vera), she lived in Rose Blanch NFLD with her husband Clyde, then moved to Glace Bay where they raised their family. In her younger years she worked at a senior’s home and later at MacKeigan Bakery, also a member of LOBA.
Beanie was a great cook and baker, also well known to the neighborhood for her daily routine of hanging out clothes on the line and her beautiful embroidery. She was a kind and generous person with a great sense of humor, she always enjoyed being around family and friends, she will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by daughters Marlene (Blair) Small, Kay (Johnny) Zegary and Cassie(George) Melnick who was her caregiver; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Hattie Francis of Halifax; brother-in-law Jim (Hilda) Burt; sister-in-law Cassie (Fabe) Brushett; along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by beloved husband Clyde; son Billy; grandson Johnny; sister Theresa Damude and sister-in-law Nina Wadman.
Visitation for Beanie will be held on Sunday Jan. 25 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Monday Jan. 26 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday Jan. 27, 11a.m., at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
