It is with great sadness, that we, the family of Darryl Seymour MacKeigan, Coldbrook, N.S. (formerly, Edgewood Drive, Sydney), announce his passing at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, Darryl was the son of the late Norman and Ruby (MacDonald) MacKeigan.
He worked and retired from the muncipality of Cape Breton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the love for harness racing, baseball, hockey and the time spent at the cottage in Baddeck with family.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Corbett), daughter, Audra (Derrick) Abbott, Coldbrook, N.S; sons, Parker, Bramalea, Ontario, and Scott, Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren, Carrigan and MacKenzie, Ernest (Brianna) Burton, Wellington, N.S., Brendon Burton, Dartmouth, N.S.; great-grandchildren, Joelen and Brooklyn, brothers-in-law, Frank (Bonita) Corbett, Sydney, N.S., John (Paulette) Corbett, Howie Center, N.S., sister-in-law, Ruth (Corbett) Morse, Cole Harbour, N.S.; nieces, Heather Morrison, Sydney, N.S., Sandra (Daniel) Small, Sydney, N.S., Shauna (Kelly) Rowe, Sydney, N.S.; nephews, Wayne (Faye) Morrison, Bedford, N.S., Geoffery Morse, Cole Harbour, N.S., and several great-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Darryl was predeceased by his sister Ilyah (Morrison) Hatcher and brother-in-law Lorimer Morse.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dad's doctors, Dr. Sivakumar Kanagasabai, the Palliative Care Team of Valley Regional Hospital, Dr. Lori Burgess, Katrina Patterson, and to the staff of the Emergency Department and Medical A and B floor of the Valley Regional Hospital, for their compassionate care. Also a huge thank you to the VON nurses and home support staff that visited our home on a daily basis and offered support and compassionate care to make our Dad more comfortable. Also a thank you to Dr. Susan MacLeod and Dr. Steven MacDougall for their care and support, and Palletive Care, VON, and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He will be dearly missed by his special favourite pets Sydney, Noey and Simba, who watched over him and sat by his beside right to the end.
Funeral service and interment will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the construction of the Palletive care unit at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville or the Palletive care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
