It is with heavy broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Willena Anastacia Quirk, age 61, on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Willena was born in North Sydney, the daughter of the late William Edward and Catherine (Donovan) Buchanan. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants for many years, throughout Cape Breton. She enjoyed her weekly bingo games and a good card game.
Willena is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Bill Quirk; her daughter, Tanya (Leigh) Voutier, Sydney Mines; her son, Billy (Ashley) Quirk, at home, her three precious granddaughters, Seanna, Shyanne and Natalia, of whom she was very proud. Also surviving are her brothers, John (Ann) Buchanan, North Sydney, Ivan (Donna) Buchanan, Calgary, Lee (Jane) Buchanan, Riverview, N.B., Bernie (Carol) Buchanan, Chester, N.S.; sisters, Georgina (Joey) MacIntyre, Lower Sackville, Theresa (Gower) Quirk, Fort Saskatchewan; by her very good friend of 44 years, Catherine Seymour, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Willena was predeceased by her sisters, Sheila Hilliard and Kathy in infancy and her brother, Walter Buchanan.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Haley Street Adult Services Centre or Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Chemotherapy Unit.
