Age 73, of Garlands Crossing, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with her family by her side. Born in Truro on April 7, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Margaret (Lowthers) Ettinger. Sylvia married Wayne Kehoe in 1957 and throughout the years they lived in various places including, Brooklyn, Three Mile Plains and Garlands Crossing where they made many friends and raised their family. In her early years, Sylvia worked at Gordon’s Grill, later known as the Downeast Restaurant. In later years she became a real estate agent. She was an active volunteer with the Windsor Lions Club for more than 30 years and was a founding member of the Gloosecap Kennel Club. She loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. Sylvia was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching birds in her backyard. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Crystal (Richard), sons, Wayne (Wanda), Kevin (Tina), Russell (Mary) and Greg; sisters, Rowena, Donna, Thelma, Wanda, Barb and brother, Keith; grandchildren, Alicia, Angela, Jason, Matthew, Mitchell, Mary Beth, Drew, Ben and Colbi. Besides her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Wayne (2011). Special thanks to the Nurses of Hants Community Hospital for their care and to special friends Tim and Vicki for all their love and support over the years. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where a funeral service celebrating Sylvia’s life was held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, Rev. Jean MacAulay officiated. A reception followed in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sylvia may be made to Hants Branch SPCA, PO Box 2274, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
