Mary Margaret DeGaust passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, at the age of 96, surrounded by her devoted caregivers.
Mary was born and raised in the large Morrison family, Dominion, and was a longtime resident of Victory Road, Glace Bay.
She was predeceased by her husbands, John Wilton and John DeGaust and stepchildren, Pat DeGaust and Joan Newcomb.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Rogers, Georgina Dugan (Bob), North Carolina, Kathleen Malafronte, Holbrook, MA, Darlene Timmons, Lethbridge, Alta., Gloria Aitken and son, Floyd Wilton; sisters, Liz Gillis and Annie MacNeil, Dominion and by a special niece, Thelma McIsaac (Ronnie), Frenchvale; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Our mother was a special lady, loved by many as a kind and giving person, who helped anyone in need.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their devotion to our mother when we were unable to be there. Special thanks to Robert Snow, your kindness will not be forgotten.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 2nd at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church. The Rev. Leo Boone will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
