Daphne Jensen

JENSEN, DAPHNE MAY (BARBER)

It is with deep sadness we share the news of Daphne’s passing on January 27th following a lengthy illness. Born in Ipswich, England, Daphne was the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Roper) Barber and widow of Felix A. Jensen, Riverview, N.B.

Daphne, a war-bride, met “her man” when he went to Northolt RAF Station, London. He was a radar mechanic in the RCAF and she a wireless operator in the WAAF (RAF). They married in October, 1945 and, in June, 1946 Daphne traveled on the Queen Mary from England to Pier 21 in Halifax. She classified herself as “one of the lucky ones, enjoying 51 years of marriage and four lovely children”.

From her arrival in Canada, Daphne was an active member of the War Brides Association, enjoying many adventures traveling to meet with counterparts for get-togethers across Canada. Until just a few years ago she volunteered at the Air Force Vet’s Club, serving meals and sharing memories with fellow veterans. She thrived on time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the many special visits from her nieces, Lina, Inga and Erika. She loved baking, gardening, a good book, an array of music and keeping her age a secret.

Many will remember this gracious, beautiful, outgoing lady from meeting her during the years she worked alongside her husband at the Rivercrest Variety. Her warm and welcoming attitude always invited a good chat. If not there, you may have run across her cheering on her sons at various sporting events. Wherever you saw her, she undoubtedly had something good to say that left you feeling all that much better for having known her.

Daphne will ever be missed by her children Brian (Sue), Kris (Juanita) and Andrew; grandchildren Kris, Treena, Scott, Misty, Tiffany, Krista, Curtis and Janna, as well as nine great-grandchildren and nieces in England, Sandra and Denise and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Felix, daughter Karen (Steve Douthwright), sister Pam and brother Derek.

In keeping with Daphne’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A family service will take place at Fair Haven Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Mullins officiating at 2:00pm Saturday January 31, 2015. Interment will take place in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Daphne’s memory may be made to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506) 852-3530. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
