Tony passed away suddenly at the Ottawa Heart Institute on January 27, 2015 after a strong and positive fight for life post heart transplant. He was born on May 27th 1960 in St. John's, son of Capt. Leonard Mackey (deceased) and Marie Mackey (nee Hann). His life will be forever remembered by his loving and supportive wife Sonya (nee Cleary), his sons Jason, Timothy, his beloved granddaughter Brianna and Parents-in law, Thomas (deceased) and Celeste Cleary. He will be always remembered by his brothers and sister, Neil (Barbara Anne), Glenn, Anita (Sterling), Dean (Heather), Donald (Pam), Leonard (Lisa), and sister-in-law Colleen (Michael Kavanagh). He also leaves to mourn his nieces and nephews, Stefan, Colin, Stephanie, Jennifer, Mark, Michael, Victoria, Carter, Maria, Benjamin, Connor, Emily, Heather, Laura and the extended Mackey and Cleary families. He embraced and appreciated the countless support from family, friends, colleagues and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Member. Special thanks to the care and friendship provided by the staff during his stay at the Heart Institute in Ottawa and many years of exceptional care at the Health Sciences Center in St. John's. Tony touched many lives and his philosophy was to take each day as it comes and to enjoy life to the fullest. Tony was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his inspiring and optimistic philosophy and giving of himself through his public service career and his volunteer work with organizations like the St. John's Rod and Gun Club and the Knights of Columbus. He would encourage everyone to sign their donor card and donations in Tony's name can be made to the Canadian Transplant Society. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Sunday and Monday from 2 - 9 p.m.. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Church, 16 Smithville Crescent, St. John's. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
