Joan Loretta (Head) McIsaac

Born In: New Waterford

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: January 29th, 2015

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our mother, Joan Loretta (Head) McIsaac. Joan passed quietly on Jan. 29, 2015, surrounded by her devoted family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, Joan was the beloved wife of the late Francis McIsaac and daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Roper) Head.
Mom worked in retail for several years during her time in Ontario. After returning to New Waterford in 1977, she settled down to be a housewife to our dad who worked in the coal mines. She had a passion for reading, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She spent many years as a member of the Home Crafters of Cape Breton participating in craft shows and took great pride in providing such a variety of crafts for sale. Her embroidery work was impeccable, we will never see any to match her quality and she made sure we all had mittens to wear during winter.
Joan is survived by her children, James (Jessica) Sampson, Brantford, Ont., Robert (Penny) McIsaac, Brampton, Ont., Russell (Jennifer) Burns, Vernon, B.C. and Cindy McIsaac (John), with whom she lived for the last few years. Joan was Granny to nine grandchildren, Mathew McIsaac, Jessica and Devin Miller, Jamie and Jenna Sampson, Tommy and Jack Burns, Mitchell and Eric Rutledge. Joan is also survived by her sisters, Stella (Lloyd) Lohnes, Comox, B.C., Judy (Ross) Preeper, Sydney, Margaret (John) MacLellan, Truro, Susan (Greg) Patterson, Dartmouth and Kathleen (Martin) McPhee, New Victoria; brothers, Russell, Brampton, Ont., Gregory (Virginia), Peterborough, Ont., Kenneth (Kathy), Sydney and Tim (Susie), New Waterford; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Harry Head.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. Cremation will follow with private family burial at a later date. A luncheon will be held at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, immediately after the funeral mass. All are welcome to attend.
Donations to any children’s foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
