Glenna Liston

LISTON, GLENNA
The family of Glenna Beatrice Liston (nee Flemming), formerly of Millville, NB, wife of the late Owen Liston, would like you to know that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She left this life, surrounded by family, on Friday, January 30 while a resident at York Care Centre in Fredericton, NB.
Glenna was born in Millville, NB on March 26, 1919 to the late Herman and Vena (Jones) Flemming. In her younger years Glenna worked at the Moonlight Motel in Dumfries, NB, and then in St. Stephen, NB keeping house for her cousin, Jennie Flemming.  After marrying Owen in 1939, she cooked in a lumber camp at County Line, NB for 14 men.  In 1941 they moved to Toronto where Glenna worked at the T. Eaton Co. for a short time assembling catalogues, and then went to work in the Munitions Plant.  She was soon promoted to inspector at the General Engineering Plant.  As the war was coming to an end, she and Owen moved back to Millville and soon after bought a farm on Maple Ridge.  It was there that Glenna learned what really hard work was.  When Owen retired from farming and started driving school bus, Glenna went to work as a clerk at Estey's store and loved every minute of it.  After retirement, she went to Prince George, BC with Owen for a few summers. While Owen worked in construction, Glenna occupied her time there keeping house, babysitting, and making 12 dozen donuts a week for her family there. Glenna was very active in her community over the years; as a member of the Maple Ridge Stitch & Chatter Club, the Women's Institute, the Silver Circle Seniors of Millville, the Millville Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years, and a Dominion Life Member of the Baptist Women's Missionary Society. She was also an avid reader, sometimes able to read as much as a book a day.  In recent years she was an inspiration to all at the special care home Terraces on Cliff, and at York Care Center.  Special thanks to all staff who took such good care of her.
Glenna is survived by her children:  Robert (Anna), Fredericton, NB, Darlene Reid (Peter Clay), Millville, NB, Diane Bragdon (Les), Fredericton, NB, Beverly (Pam), London, ON, Myrtle Liston (Billy), Howland Ridge, NB, Carl (Ruth), Maple Ridge, NB, and Judith Brown (Dannie), Fredericton, NB/North Sydney, NS; 17 grandchildren  (living from Nova Scotia to Alberta), 33 great grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Billington, Upper Kingsclear, NB, a sister-in-law Hazel Flemming, Millville, NB, two brothers-in-law Ronald McGuigan, Millville, NB and Garth Piper, Upper Knoxford, NB, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Glenna was predeceased by her parents, her son-in-law Mack Reid, her daughter-in-law Nancy, three sisters: Amber Piper, Geraldine Liston, and Lorna McGuigan; two brothers: Willard and Murray; and by her great-granddaughter Lauren Tranquilla.
Visitation will be at the Millville Baptist Church, 1469 Route 605, Millville, NB on Wednesday, February 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2 pm from the church with Rev. Derek Langille officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at a later date at the Maple Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Brian and Shawn Reid, Christopher, Gregory and Joel Bragdon, Shannon Liston, Jeffrey Pickard, Michael Liston, and Aaron and Stephen Brown.
For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Glenna, the family has suggested the Millville Baptist Church or the Maple Ridge Cemetery.
