It is with heavy hearts, that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Catherine 'Kit' Livingstone. Catherine passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, on Jan. 29, 2015, at the age of 103.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Maude (Olsen) O’Toole. Catherine, a woman of strong faith, was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a longtime resident of Wilson’s Road, Reserve Mines, where together with her loving husband Bernard Livingstone, they celebrated a long marriage together and raised their loving family. With the help of her family, friends, the Cape Breton County Homemakers and the VON, she was able to live at home until only last year when she moved into Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
She was an excellent homemaker, a job she truly loved; she enjoyed raising her children, cooking, baking and even cleaning and in doing every task she was meticulous. She also enjoyed her time spent crocheting and she loved to dance. Catherine was a member of Club 55 in Sydney and was also a member of the CNIB.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Helen Gouthro, Glace Bay, Margie Caines, Reserve Mines, Dianne (John Jobe), Ontario, Gerard (Patricia), Port Hawkesbury, Cyril (Jackie), Ontario, Ron, Ontario, Gerald, Ontario, Eddie (Lois), Reserve Mines. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren; great-grandchildren, especially Koltyn Hicks-Gouthro, Keigan Jobe, Bethany Caines-Gillis and Mathew and Joshua MacDonald, who all held a special spot in her heart; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband Bernard, sons, Gerard, Bernard 'Bert' and two sons in infancy, sons-in-law, Jackie Gouthro, Billy Caines; daughters-in-law Fern, Girley, Norma and grandson Donnie Caines.
Visitation for the late Catherine Livingstone, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, from 12-1:45 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.
Memorial donations in Catherine’s memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
At this time we wish to thank the Cape Breton County Homemakers, VON nurses, especially Nancy Kuta-George, close friend and neighbour Suzanne Gracie, the Eucharistic Ministers who brought to her the Holy Communion at her home every month and Dr. David Ley, who was always there for Ma.
