ATWOOD, Barbara Evelyn, age 82 of The Meadows Home for Special Care, formerly of Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., N.S. was called home to be with Jesus on February 3, 2015. Born on September 26, 1932 she was the first daughter of the late Carl and Kathleen Boyd (Hipson) of Yarmouth. We are deeply saddened by the loss of a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Mom was the happiest while in her kitchen cooking for, and serving, her family. She spent her working years cooking, first at the Flintstone Carhop, and then the Colony Restaurant. She also worked as a cook at Hebron Elementary School for many years, summer camps and ladies retreats at Camp Peniel. Words cannot express how deeply we will miss her. Barb is survived by her husband of 65 years Charlie; and her six children, Barbara Ann Surette (Joey), Moods Mill Road, Yarmouth Co.; Susan Goodwin (Larry) Port Maitland; Charles Atwood Jr. (Cindy), Melbourne; Kathy Bishara (Tom), Gardeners Mill; Debbie Landers (Peter), Whites Lake, Halifax; Tim Atwood (Genevieve), Ottawa ON; sister, Carmen Wyman, Tusket; brothers, Jack Boyd, Yarmouth; Victor Boyd, Springdale; Bill Boyd, ON; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, all who hold her memory dear. Mom was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and sang in the choir until her illness. She was also a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Arnold, Ralph, Paul and Stanley in infancy; sister, Eva Upton; and one great grandson, Ashton Goodwin who died in infancy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday, February 5, 2015, 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Mike Cannell officiated. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery Hebron. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Society, Camp Peniel, Gideons or a charity of your choice.
