Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: February 5th, 2015

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Nelson 'Ted' Bishop on February 5th, 2015, at Miners Lane, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney N.S.
Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Percy and Ida Bishop. Ted served in the Navy during the Second World War as a medical ship’s mate on the corvet "Petrolia". After the war Ted returned to Sydney to work for John R. MacDonald’s Wholesale as a book keeper. Ted was an active member of Christ Church Anglican Church in Sydney. He sang in the choir, was a member of the vestry and served as church treasurer for many years. Ted loved to tell stories that exhibited his great knowledge of Sydney in earlier days. His other love was singing. Not only did he sing in the choir but also around the campfire at the summer cottage at Gillis’s Lake. He continued to serenade his care givers until the end. Ted is survived by one son, Greig (Terry), Sydney; daughter-in-law, Shelda, Lower Sackville; three grandchildren, Ian (Angela), Miles (Julia), Emily (Evan) and two great grandchildren, Gabriel and Noah, and some special nieces and nephews.
Ted was predeceased by his wife Olga (Ash); son Phillip; brothers William 'Bill' and Joseph 'Bud'.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be celebrated at The Church of Christ the King, Sydney, on Monday, February 9th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Laura Mc Cue officiating. Visitation with family will take place in the church vestibule from 10-10:45 a.m.
The family would like to thank the staff of Miners Lane for the wonderful care Ted received. Special thanks is also extended to Isabel Cooper for her kindness and caring, and to Bob and Mabel Watson for their many neighbourly visits throughout the years.
In Ted’s memory donations maybe made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of SW Chant & Son Funeral Home.
