Theresa Mae Burley

BURLEY, Theresa Mae – 94, Truro, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at home. Born June 13, 1920, in Onslow Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Merle Smith and Myrtle H. (Whidden) (Smith) Walsh. Theresa was an adherent of Brunswick Street United Church, Truro. She loved traveling and spending her winters in Florida with her husband, George. She loved company at home in Truro and in Florida and one of her greatest pleasures was having family members visit her in Florida. She loved children and her grandchildren and especially liked March break vacations when they were off to visit Nanny and Grampy, and of course, Disney World. In her early years, Theresa enjoyed her rock garden and putting flower arrangements together. In her later years, she enjoyed reading her papers from front to cover and doing word-find puzzles in the papers as well as in the books that family and friends brought in to her. Theresa is survived by her sons, Wayne (June) Burley, Gary (Barbara) Burley, Truro; daughter, Marilyn (John) Gold, Dartmouth; sisters, Verna Stone, Phyllis Hinton, Fairley-Juanita Lynds; brother, Russell Walsh; grandchildren, Trina Nann (Joanni Sallerina), Cavell Burley (Shane Crowell), Jacqueline (Bob) Conlin, John-Michael Gold (Nicole Auby), Timmy (Karla) Burley, Kevin Burley; great grandchildren, George Lloyd Sallerina, Nessa Ann Sallerina, Alaira Burley-Sallerina, Braedy Conlin, Colby Conlin, Xavier Burley, Cooper Burley; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Lloyd Burley; sister, Dorothy Rector; brothers, Gerald Walsh, Dr. Wylie Smith. The family would like to thank the VON team members and management for their care and compassion. Her fondest wish was to return to her home after a three week hospital stay and the VON helped make her dream come true. Special thanks to her night time care givers who played games with her, laughed with her and cared for her. Mum called them her night time friends and looked forward to them coming each evening. Diane, Nancy and Goldie, thank you for everything you did for our mother. Phyllis Hinton, thank you for being so kind and having a special bond with our mother; your phone calls and visits meant so much to her. Cathy Hinton, thank you for being such a special niece and for all your “comic relief”; Mum always had a great laugh with you.
