BURKEY: Verna Victoria age 71 of Swift Current, SK passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Regina General Hospital. The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Father James Owolagba officiating. The Interment Service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The organist was Yolande Gorrill, the eulogy was read by Cathy Nerada, readings were given by Barbara and Victoria Burkey, and honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Verna's life. Verna is survived by her husband of 51 years Charlie Burkey of Swift Current, SK; daughters Barbara Burkey of Swift Current, and Tracey (Tim) Burkey of Fort McMurray, AB; granddaughters Victoria (Ross) Burkey of Swift Current, Charlene Burkey of Swift Current, and Natasha Wollman of Moose Jaw, SK; grandson Tyson Burkey; great granddaughter Raylen Burkey-Ginter of Swift Current; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents John and Annie Dmitruk; brothers Steve and Norman Melnyk; and son Raymond Burkey. She was born to John and Annie Dmitruk on February 24, 1943. She attended school in The Pas, Manitoba. On March 28, 1964 she married Charles Burkey in Winchester, Virginia, USA. Verna worked for Canada Post for many years. She loved the outdoors, gardening in her yard and crocheting. Verna enjoyed time with her family, and always had unconditional love for all of her pets.
