Rath: Frances (Frankie) Joyce Rath (Jeffries), Age 90, of Success, passed away peacefully January 28th, 2015 at the Palliser Care Home in Swift Current, SK. Frances is lovingly remembered by her brother William (Doris) Jeffrey of Swift Current, sister Joan Lachlan of Calgary, son James Rath of Success, daughter Deborah (Dave) Jackow of Big River, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Nadine (Byron) Zakoski their son Seth, Jarret (Tasha) Jackow their children Deklin and Makenna, Taya (Devin) Beaudoin their children Oscar, Juno, and Sasha Jackow. She was predeceased by her parents Enoch and Clarissa, 3 brothers Ray (Bud), Robert and Jack, sister Faye, husband Gordon, and daughter Karon. Frances was born May 23, 1924 on the farm near Success and lived on Clarissa and Enoch's homestead till she was 17. She attended Orillia school, and later business school in Swift Current. At the young age of 18 she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was transferred to Calgary to learn a more advanced teletype operator system. In 1943 she traveled overseas to London to serve for her country, remaining there for 3 years. March of 1946, after returning home, Frances married her neighbor and longtime friend, Gordon. They resided on the Henry Rath Homestead where they farmed the land and raised their three children; James Stanley, Karon Frances, and Deborah Joan. Gordon and Frances were always very active in the community, playing cards, attending dances, helping with suppers, curling club, 4-H club, church gatherings and any other community functions, and fondly remember all the family gatherings at the farm. Gordon and Frances moved off the farm and into the town of Success. It was while living in Success she ran the local post office. Her participation in clubs started at a young age and continued through her lifetime. She joined the Women's Institute (1952), Cantuar Busy Bees (1960), Slimettes (1972), Birthday Club, and taught sewing for the 4-H club. In 1988, after 43 years of marriage, Gordon passed away. She kept busy and spent her time doing what she loved, gardening, quilting, knitting and crocheting, everyone had a tea cozy from Frankie. She also spent her time visiting with her family, friends, and of course her grandchildren. Eventually Frances moved to Swift Current into a seniors complex (Pioneer Lodge) which she very much enjoyed. Illness brought her to the Palliser where she graciously accepted the love and care from the staff, and for her last years was lovingly referred to as "Frances." The memorial service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First United Church with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. Memories read by Tana Beaudoin. Frankie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
