Leanne Hawkes-Sobeck, 49, of Riverview and formerly of Hillsborough passed away on February 7, 2015, at the George L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Moncton, N.B., she was a daughter of Doris Hawkes and the late Reginald Hawkes, of Hillsborough.
Leanne is survived by her husband and best friend of 32 years, Kim Sobeck, along with three beautiful children, Alec (U.N.B.), Hailey (at home) and Darcy Jans (Calgary); brother David (Brenda) and sister Darlene. She is also survived by her in-laws, Herb and Sheila Sobeck, of Hillsborough.
Leanne was employed by the Department of Social Development for the past 25 years as a Social Worker, most recently with the Long Term Care Program. She also operated her own business, Healing Haus Therapies. Leanne graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1990 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree (Dean's List) from Saint Thomas University. Leanne loved to learn and earned her Diploma in Acupuncture in 2010 and her Doctorate in Natural Medicine in 2011. Leanne had a passion for reading and was a published author, having her self-help book, "Journey to Joy" published in 2009. Leanne touched everyone who met her and was certainly an inspiration to all. Her positive attitude, love for all living things, giving nature and joy for life will be her legacy. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the nurses and Doctors who provided Leanne with exceptional care, especially Dr. Benjelloun, the nurse angels in 4A and 3C units and all of the staff at the Georges L. Dumont Hospital Centre. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Leanne is resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Rd, Moncton, 506-852-3530. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 between the hours of 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 2 pm with Pastor Dean MacDonald officiating. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Leanne's memory can be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada or to the George L. Dumont Hospital Foundation (Oncology Centre).
