MURPHY, MARY ELEANOR
It is with great sadness the family of Mary Eleanor Murphy announces her passing on February 10, 2015 at her residence, Rocmaura Nursing Home.
Eleanor was born in Saint John on June 14, 1913 to James and Ann (Fitzgerald) McGrath. She was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing. Prior to her marriage she was a registered nurse at the DVA Hospital. Mom was a long time member of the Catholic Women’s League and was a devoted life long member of the Cathedral Parish.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herman.
She will be greatly missed by her children: James (Brenda) of Fredericton, N.B.; Kevin (Carmel)
of Saint John; Maura Ann (Douglas) Hazen of Smiths Falls, Ontario; Peter (Lynne) and Sean, of Saint John and her dear sister, Corrine Kennedy, of Saint John. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Jeremy Murphy (Chealleigh Dean) of Halifax, N.S.; Stephanie (Jeff) Castura of Texas; Samantha Hazen (Dave Armstrong) of Ottawa, Ontario; Douglas Hazen, Jr of Japan; Ryan Murphy of Saint John; Jennifer Murphy of Amherst, N.S. and her great-grandchildren Kristen, Evan, Oliver, Stella and Declan as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mom was a very outgoing and generous person who made many friends over her lifetime , especially her great friend, Elinor Sheehan.
The family would sincerely like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Rocmaura Nursing Home for their compassionate care in keeping Mom comfortable on the last part of her journey.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home,100 Waterloo Street, Saint John, NB, (634-1965) with Visiting on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10am.
