It is with saddened hearts, that we announce the passing of Annabelle Thomson on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015 at her home with family and close friends by her side.
Born in Glace Bay and raised in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Murphy) Higgins.
Annabelle had great devotion to “Our Lady". She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. She served as sacristan for 10 years and was an active member of the C.W.L.
Annabelle loved to cook and she volunteered her time making meals for the Boys Camp in Boisdale. She was an avid reader and in her younger years she enjoyed playing darts and cards. Annabelle was also known for her quick wit and sense of humour. But mostly, Annabelle will be remembered as a caring lady; always ready to help and serve others.
She is survived by four sons, Robert (Rita), Shannon (Karen), Michael (Nancy), Paul (Tracie); one brother, Garvey (Joanne), seven grandchildren, Katie, Jared, Christopher, Camri, Skylar, Lucas, Megan, godchildren, Sonya MacIntosh, Sarah McInnis and several nieces and nephews.
Annabelle is also survived by special friends, Isabel Musial, Rita MacPherson, Cathy MacIntyre and two special girls that were like daughters to her, Allison and Ashley MacIntyre.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Thomson; six brothers, Peter, John, Alex, William, Andrew, James; three sisters, Jeanette Carver, Ellen Bird, Margaret Sophocleous and grandchild, Michael Paul.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Saturday, 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to palliative care.
