It is with great sadness, that we the children of Eileen Whalen announce her passing. Mom passed away with her family by her side on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
The eldest of 11 children, she was born in Glace Bay the daughter of the late Robert and Sophie (Phillips) Stubbert of Gardiner Mines.
Eileen was a member of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier, and the New Waterford Pensioners Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards especially tarabish and bingo.
Eileen will be sadly missed by her loving children; daughters, Hazel ,New Glasgow; Leona, South Bar; sons, Lonnie (Karen), Blackett’s Lake; Jackie, South Bar; Billy (Yvonne) Newfoundland; Donnie (Tonya) North Sydney; Wayne (Tammy) Newfoundland; sisters, Jenny (Jim), P.E.I.; Helen, Dominion; brothers Sonny, Gardiner Mines; Ivan (Diane), Ottawa; John, Toronto; George, Glace Bay. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her first husband Jack Gosbee, in 1968; her second husband Donald in 1995; a daughter Lenora, in infancy; and brothers, Bobby 2001, Melvin 2004, Stephen 2010 and Gordon in infancy.
In honouring Eileen's request, there will be no visitation or church service.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction, of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the family plot in the Church of The Good Shepherd Cemetery, Centerville Road, Reserve Mines.
Memorial donation in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
