It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, Helen Gwynne Burton, 100, on Saturday, Feb.14, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Helen was born Nov. 15, 1914, at Cape North, Victoria County, the daughter of the late Sylvanes and Lydia (Gwynne) Duchesney.
She enjoyed many simple pleasures throughout her life such as sewing, knitting, reading, picking fiddleheads and telling stories about the people and the past, growing up and living in Cape North.
Helen is survived by her sons, Angus Burton and Billy (Blanche) Burton, both of Cape North, Jackie (Corinne) Burton, Frenchvale; her daughters, Sally Burton, Dartmouth, Peggy (Robert) Shaw, Margaree, Lydia (Leroy) Pyke, North Sydney, Lorraine Burton, Dartmouth. She enjoyed very much her 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; her special nephews, Clifford Duchesney and Davey Phillips and special niece Margaret Gillis, a special friend Tom Keigan who would visit with Helen on regular occasions, also surviving are many other nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Burton, daughter Elsie Burton, sons, Henry, Danny and Victor Burton, her sister Edith Phillips and daughter-in-law Helen Burton.
Visitation for Helen will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Nancy Ritchie officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
