Lloyd Gillis passed away peacefully in the Mahone Bay Nursing Home, the morning of Feb. 16, 2015.
Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Angus and Jesse (MacDonald) Gillis. Cape Breton was where his heart lived. A boxer, lover of jazz and a longtime member of the New Waterford police department, he was a big man with a big heart.
He is survived by his sister, Pauline Angot; niece, Carmel Zinck; nephew, David Angot and his beloved family in Glace Bay, Linda (deceased), Darlene, Lloyd and Kirk.
Besides his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by his brother, Bernard.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A funeral mass at the Parish of St. Leonard and interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
