Passed on: February 16th, 2015

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Theresa Cameron-Dooley on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at home.
Mary Theresa Isabelle Beaton, born May 20, 1927, was the daughter of the late Angus and Catherine (MacEachern) Beaton, Port Hood.
Theresa graduated from Normal College in Truro in 1947. Her teaching career would span forty years beginning at home in Port Hood; in a one room school house teaching primary to grade 12. After her marriage, she and John Cameron moved to North Sydney for his employment with CN Marine where they raised their five daughters. Upon John’s death in 1978 she continued raising her children. She was a wonderful example of strength, grace, kindness and truth. She gave us many lasting gifts: to be a good person and neighbour, to understand how precious life is, and to love and remain close as sisters.
Theresa taught in various schools on the Northside, the majority of her years at St. Mary’s School in North Sydney until her retirement in 1987. Theresa remarried in 1991 to John Dooley, who later passed in 1998. She returned to Port Hood every summer for vacation to spend time with her brother, and soaked up the Scottish culture she loved so much; especially music and dancing.
Theresa lived her life with faith forever guiding her; she was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney and a member of the Catholic Women’s League.
She is survived by her five daughters, Donna (Curtis) Allen of Georges River, Carol (Geoff) Lawlor of Lunenburg, Denise (Ed) Baker of Dorchester Ont., Colleen (Peter) Mosher of Lunenburg, and Paula (Jim) Hickey of Coldbrook; her two stepsons, Richard (Sheila) Dooley of Dartmouth, and David (Kim) Dooley of North Sydney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer and Stephen Allen, Kristen and Kathleen Lawlor, Alek Baker, Kate and Jenna Mosher, Emma Hickey, and Ben, Sarah, Kathleen and Christopher Dooley. Living in Port Hood is her much loved brother, Gerard (Anne) Beaton, and her nieces and nephews, Gail, David, Elaine and Brian.
Theresa was predeceased by her first husband John Cameron, her second husband John Dooley and her infant brother Angus Lauchlin.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neil officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
