It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Jean Abbass, 93, on Feb. 17, 2015, at the Dutch Brook Guest Home.
Born in Polson’s Brook, Antigonish County, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Arletta (Polson) MacChesney.
Jean grew up in Sydney, where she attended Sydney Academy and graduated from the Empire Business College in Sydney. She was employed at D.J. Bonnelles Ltd. and Maritimes Leathers, before moving to Halifax where she worked for the government (civil service). Later returning to Sydney to care for uncle Henry. After the passing of her uncle, Jean moved to Kitchener, Ont., where she married her husband George Abbass, returning to Sydney to raise their family. Her last career was in the real estate field where she worked for 22 years.
Jean is survived by her children, Greg, Sydney, Cheryl (Les), Black Point, Pictou, Karen (John), Sydney, Deryck (Marlene), Sydney; sister, Eileen (John) Goleff, Kitchener, Ont.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George, son, Graham, sisters, Ann MacKeough and Mae Vinten, her daughter-in-law, Cathy Abbass.
"Gone but not forgotten."
As per Jean's wishes her remains were donated to the Dalhousie University.
There will be no visitation or service.
