It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Marie Hurley age 73 of Amherst announce her passing on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Meddie and Alice (MacKay) Landry.
She worked at Kmart in Amherst for several years. Rita enjoyed spending time at the beach in Northport and having tea with her many friends.
Rita loved her family and took any opportunity she could to babysit her grandchildren.
She had a passion for cooking and cleaning.
Rita will be sadly missed by her three daughters Cindy (Danny) Vance of Joggins, Pam Johnston (Ducky Sauveur) of Amherst and Kim (Terry) Burbine of Joggins, six grandchildren April Allen, Danielle Vance, Lindsay Johnston, Tyler Johnston, Brandon Burbine and Devin Burbine, three great grandchildren Reese, Kaden and Dominic, one brother Jimmy (Carrie) Landry of Amherst and sister Phyllis (Gardner) Hurley of Maccan and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband Gervin, son Layton and sisters Dorothy Noiles and Jean Collins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 7 -9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (902-667-9906).
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the M.S. Society or the N.S. Lung Association.
