It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Oliver Joseph ‘Sap’ Denny Sr., 64 of Eskasoni on Tuesday, Feb.17, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Noel S. and Bridget (Marshall) Denny.
Sap was a humble man, who with his kind and generous spirit, touched the hearts of so many. He was a carpenter by trade and with his knowledge was able to pass on this trade through his training of many young craftsmen. He was involved in his community holding a position as a band councilor for over a decade. Family was a very important part of his life and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Phyllis Denny; his long time companion, Annie Herney; daughter, Carrie (Serge) Paul; sons, Oliver Jr. (Chrisma), Noel F. (Nerissa), Curtis, Toby (Charmaine); stepdaughter, Bree and stepson, Curtis Menge; grandchildren, Serge, Landon, Brandon, Valee, Kolbin, Auriel, Oliver, Jack, Christopher, Emily, Kirsten, Noland, Cameron, Ainsley, Malik, Nevaeh, Brody, Angelo; step-grandson, Tylen; great-grandchildren, Julianna and Serge. Also surviving are his godchildren, Claudia, Billy, Sheldon, Angel, Roger, Nicole, Katie, Lorne, Roland, Sarah, Kolbin, Neut, Newellie, Cheryl Anne, Jessie, Jillian, Chastity, Robin, Olivea and John Sai. He is survived also by siblings, Mary Jane (Steve), Mildred (Ernest), Pauline (Mooney), Yvonne (Joe P.), Alonzo (Mona), Noel (Janet), Yvon, Elsa, Verna (Roger), Harriet and Simon (Kim); special friends, Walter Stevens and Jolly Ma’sl and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Roland Sr. and Ira and sisters, Judy, Olive and Martha.
Visitation for Mr. Denny will begin after 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23 at 15 Ma’sl Lane, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
