Edith Hazel (Newell) Wickens - 88, of Kentville, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Clam Point, Cape Sable Island, Shelburne County, on November 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Brenton and Veretta (Ross) Newell, Clam Point, Cape Sable Island. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Wickens; daughter, Donna Marcelli; brothers, Wishart, Carl, Avery, Francis, Blanchard, Malcolm and Randall. She is survived by her children, Larry (Rowena), Corner Brook, Newfoundland; Carol Macnutt (Byron), British Columbia; Gary (Pam), Centreville, Kings County; Michelle, Waterville, Kings County; Chris, Kentville; brother, Kenneth, Shelburne; sister-in-law, Blanche Clarke, Halifax; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Our thanks to Pastor Thelma McLeod, Dr. O'Malley, Paulette Gash (Palliative Care), the VON, Dr. Burch, Dr. Burgess, Continuing Care and her many friends with support, cards and visits. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A celebration of life was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 in Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Aldershot, Reverend Thelma McLeod officiating. A reception followed in the church hall. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital - Carey Me Fund, the Annapolis Valley Palliative Care Program, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses, the Canadian Cancer Society or Bethany Memorial Baptist Church.
