It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Benedict Haggett, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital, just one month after his loving wife Justine passed away.
Born in North Sydney on March 4, 1929, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Mary
Haggett.
Joe worked as a stevedore with CN Marine and then Marine Atlantic retiring after 52 years of service. Joe was a member of the International Longshoreman’s Union. He was a quiet man who enjoyed walking and being at home with his wife and family, listening to the radio and catching up on political affairs. Joe was a devout member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Heather Haggett (Bob Grouchy), Fort McMurray, Jo-Ann (Eric) MacNeil, North Sydney and son Stephen (Darlene) Haggett, Lacombe, Alberta, her five grandchildren, Stephen, Kimberley, Christopher, Kayla and Andrea. Also surviving are his two sisters, Eva MacDonald, Vancouver and Rose Keeping, Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife Justine E. Haggett on Jan. 15, 2015, by his sisters, Rita Scott, Mary Margaret Robitallie, Geraldine Dakin and Marion Haggett, by his brothers, George, Gerard and Lloyd Haggett.
Sincere thank you to Dr. Charles Coish and Dr. Irina Ghenea and the nursing staff on 4 west at the Northside General Hospital for the care and compassion given to Joe during the past number of months. Sincere thanks to Karen and Gary Forrest for their devout friendship and for always being there when needed.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Joseph will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
