Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: February 12th, 2015

On Feb. 12, 2015, Sheila Thompson passed away peacefully at the age of 82, in palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Sheila was born in Hamilton, Ont., to her beloved parents, Ross and Emma (Dunlop) Head.
Sheila is survived by her loving son, Noel (Laura) and step-grandson, William; loving daughter, Tanya and beloved granddaughter, Emma; dear brother, Michael (Saundra); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, but their cherished love and strength carried through Sheila giving her children a wealth of love and compassion and the ability to withstand what they thought they never could. She was also predeceased by her wee brother, Donald (2 ½ years old), dear brother, Peter (Ruth) and beloved sister, Marion (Emil).
As a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Sheila led an interesting life and marched to a different drummer. Mom wasn’t afraid of striking out to take up residence in places unknown, some of which included Alberta, Victoria, B.C., North Gower, Ont., Kingston, Ont., Enterprise, Ont., Thunder Bay, Ont., Pleasant Bay, N.S. and Sydney, N.S.
Like no other, Sheila was a fearless, independent, adventuresome and passionate woman with a depth of being that was a shining example to so many people. Mom’s kind, youthful personality touched many and left people remarking that it was an honour to know her. She had a keen interest and knowledge of the plants growing around her and a passion for the protection and welfare of animals. Mom read a lot and liked to listen to CBC radio and classical music.
Sheila will be missed by many who loved her dearly.
Cremation has taken place and her life will be celebrated at Skeleton Lake, Muskoka, Ont., this summer.
If you wish, donations in memory of Shelia may be made to The Association For The Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals or to your local animal shelter, food bank or library.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
