SIMPSON, GORDON C.
The family of Gordon C. Simpson regrets to announce his passing on February 19, 2015 in his 91st year.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Avis; his sister, Heather; his three children, Diane Simpson (Keith), Carol Morrison (Luke), and Robert Simpson (Penina); one stepson, Jim Short (Brenda); as well as nine grandchildren, Barry (Meghan), Tom (Claire), Kenneth (Alicia), Jay (Shauna), Lisa (Matthew), Frankie, Thomas, Shayna and Cheyanne as well as five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sue and his brother, Andrew Simpson.

Gordon was born and educated in Montreal. He served 3 years with the RCAF during World War II as a radio and radar mechanic with 8 months service in England. On his return to Canada he graduated from McGill University in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in Kingston and Montreal before moving to Fredericton in 1957 to work with Atlas Construction. In 1962 he formed Simpson Construction Limited, sold the business in 1994 and retired in 1997.

Gordon was Canadian Badminton Men’s Doubles Champion and Singles Finalist. He represented Canada in 3 international Thomas Cup matches. He won the province of Quebec’s singles, men’s and mixed doubles titles for several years during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.

Gordon served as President of Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, Fredericton Curling Club, Fredericton Golf Club, Fredericton Kiwanis Club, Fredericton Pony Club and Fredericton Construction Association. He was Lt. Governor of Kiwanis and a director of the Canadian Construction Association. He served on committees for Big Brother Association, Fredericton Airport Committee and Maritime Seniors Golf Association. Gordon was a Life Member of the Professional Engineers Association of New Brunswick, Fredericton Construction Association and Fredericton City Club. His business and community activities brought him into contact with many and founded friendships which he cherished. Gordon was competitive and loved a challenge. His energy, smile and generosity will be missed.

The family appreciates the care provided by staff at the Veteran’s Health Unit and Shannex; as well as the assistance provided by Marilyn Landry.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26th, 2015 from 4 to 6 pm. The funeral service will be held in the J. A. McAdam Chapel on Friday, February 27th, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Kelly Burke officiating. Interment will take place in the Mount Royal Cemetery, Quebec at a later date.
