Jerome Ernest (Terry) Murphy

It is with joy and sadness that we announce the passing of Jerome Ernest Murphy into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on February 23, 2015. He passed away suddenly and peacefully after a one year struggle with cancer. After living 37 years in Portugal Cove, they moved to Clarenville, NL in 2014. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Sue (Young) of 47 years; and three children: Sharon (Rene) Guzman of Round Rock, TX, Rebecca (Pastor Les) Chymist of Shoal Harbour, NL, and David (Monica) Murphy of Cedar Park, TX. He was also a wonderful grandfather to 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother & father, one sister and one granddaughter. Jerome was born on October 7, 1936 in New London, Conn., but had called Newfoundland home since 1973 when he and family moved to St. John's where he was one of the first audiologists at the Janeway Child Health Centre until 1995. He then worked for Beltone until 2001. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Pearl, NL where he used his Master of Music degree and exceptional talent for the Lord in all areas of the music ministry. At various times he served as organist, pianist, choir director, teacher as well as being a deacon and a mentor to many. Viewings will be held at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's, on Wednesday, February 25, from 7-9 pm, and on Thursday, February 26, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Service to be held on Friday, February 27, 2015, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Mt. Pearl - off of Wyatt Blvd. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Jerry's memory may do so to Vista Independent Baptist Church in Clarenville, or to First Baptist Church in Mt. Pearl.
