D. Jean Wills

WILLS, D. JEAN
It is with regret and attendant sadness that the family of Doris JEAN (Coffey) Wills announces her peaceful passing at Birch House, Loch Lomond Villa on February 23, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Charles Wills and they shared sixty-three wonderful years together.
Jean was a true and feisty Leo, born on August 12, 1925 and was the youngest child of Harry and Irene (Bridges) Coffey. She was a proud South Ender and graduated from Saint John High School in 1942. A fantastic, selfless wife, mother and grandmother, her other life-long passion was for the Girl Guides. She began as a Brownie at the age of eight, became a Guide, then a Guide Leader and Trainer, and eventually was appointed District Commissioner. Jean was also employed for many years on the staff of the Girl Guide office. But her greatest contribution was no doubt that of being a role model for so many young girls of the South End as Brown Owl of St. James Church on Broad Street. St. James, while it stood was the sustaining, spiritual bedrock for both Jean and Charlie. It also helped in kindling their romance when they played together on the St. James Championship badminton team.
Jean is survived by her husband Charlie, her children Chris (Pamela), Stephen (Loral), granddaughter Sinead and through the blessing of extended family, granddaughters Michelle (Mark) and Sara (Craig). Jean was the loyal Godmother to a host of Saint Johners and we know she will always be kept close in the hearts of her nieces and nephews, from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her middle son, Robert Bruce, brother Harry “Bud” and sister Priscilla. Jean Wills was a forthright, bright presence in our midst, always to be missed, never to be forgotten.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). There will be visitation on Thursday, February 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will be held at St Mary and St. Bartholomew’s at 11 am on Friday, February 27, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Jean’s name can be made to The Loch Lomond Villa Foundation; the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada; St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Saint John.
And finally, the family wishes to express our profound gratitude to the caregivers at Loch Lomond Villa, for how you manage to be so heartfelt and kind while working so hard.
