It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Tom LeBlanc on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at the Halifax Infirmary in the arms of his wife and best friend, Valerie.
Born in Sydney on Sept. 23, 1951, Tommy was the son of the late George and Agnes (Poirier) LeBlanc.
He was an adherent of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. Tommy grew up in Sydney and lived in Howie Center before moving to South Bar. For 26 years, he worked as a fire fighter for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, working in Sydney and New Waterford before retiring in 2012. Tom spent a season working in Edmonton for Noyan as a truck driver. He was also a carpenter, always busy at one job or another and couldn’t say no to anyone needing help. He loved to pick and tease, especially with the kids.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Valerie (Barrington) LeBlanc; son, Brent (Sarah), St. John’s, N.L.; daughter, Ashley (BJ) Petrie, Sydney; sister, Anne Marie LeBlanc (Dave), Onslo; brothers, Joe (Helen), Sydney, Eddy (Paula), Georges River and Wil (Wanda), Balls Creek. Tommy will also be missed by his grandson, Jonathon, his little man and the light of his life and also by his nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Tommy will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Friday 10 a.m., with Rev. Alex MacLellan officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tommy’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
Thank you to Dr. Greg Myatt and staff, the transplant team at the V.G. Hospital, the staff of 8A at the V.G. Hospital and all those who supported our family in any way.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
