It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear brother John on Feb. 21 2015 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital at the age of 83. Predeceased by his parents John and Mercedes (Seward) Carew. Leaving behind brothers: Joe (wife Gertrude - deceased), Nick (Ruth), Danny (wife Joan - deceased) and Pat (Jean). Sisters: Anne Carew, Marina Aita (Angelo), Sheila Carew and Eleanor Furlong (Ed). His much loved nieces: Anne Marie Mikhailyuk, Karen Fung Kee Fung, ON, Cindy Eagan, Colleen Ivimey, NS, Kim Furlong, Judy Furlong Mallard, Sandi Flemming, NS and their spouses. Nephews: Nick Carew, Michael Carew, NS, Sean Carew, NB, Jamie Carew, NS, Armando Aita, Germany as well as their spouses; a number of grand and great-grandnieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. John's quick wit and dry humour will be forever missed by friends and family. Rested at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Rd., St. John's on Monday. Feb. 23 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Tue. Feb. 24 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral service took place at St. Patrick's Church, Patrick Street, St. John's on Wednesday, February 25 at 9:30 a.m. Private inurnment to take place at a later date.
