Donna Hatcher

Donna Hatcher

On Wednesday, February 25 Heaven took another angel home. Donna earned her wings and passed away untimely and unexpectedly. She has left behind many broken hearts. Donna was born in Glace Bay, and resided there most of her life. She was raised by her maternal grandparents Bessie and Danny MacIntyre. She came from a large family with many brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and more cousins than anyone could imagine.
Donna was also blessed to have a large extended family in her life, bonded by love and friendship, she often said she adopted us all! Work was a big part of Donna’s life. Her time spent working at the Cape Breton Hospital was very rewarding to her. She made many lifetime friends there, both staff and residents. Upon its closure Donna continued her environmental services work at the CBRH, GBGH and Taigh Na Mara. She was a very hard worker and enjoyed her career until her health began to fail. She had only recently retired.
Donna was proud to have been a past member of the RCL and the Sergeant’s Mess. She always enjoyed any social gathering and if it included dancing, all the better. She had all the “moves” and she loved to dance.
Donna leaves behind numerous people who love her. She will be dearly missed in her “home away from home” with her chosen family, the Murrant’s. Tammy (Wadden) Stephen and her pride and joy Blayke and Brielynn. Kendra, RJ and Megan were also dear to her heart. Donna had a large following of friends near and far. Colleen, Shirley, Marie, Caroline, Donna, Geraldine, Wendy, Kathy (Halifax), Gerri Lynn, Darlene, Collette and Rob...just to name a few! Donna loved company and enjoyed her many visitors especially if they came with a Tim Horton’s tea! Donna was predeceased by many family members and friends.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main Street. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, March 2 at 11 a.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Kirk Neville will be officiating. The interment will take place at a later date.
