It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Fraser on Saturday, February 28 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (McGean) Fraser.
John started his teaching career at Halifax West High School and retired from Dominion where he taught Industrial Arts. He was a member of the KOC. He served on the council of St John’s Parish and was active on various committees for many years. Prior to the deterioration of his health John was an avid skater and square dancer, both of which he enjoyed very much.
He is survived by Mary Fraser, Glace Bay and her son John, Elaine (Jude) Kelly, Glace Bay, their children Michael and Melissa, Maurina (Sheldon) Canova, Dominion and their children Christian, Alicia, Anna, Anna Lee (Robert) Kazamel, Glace Bay and their children Shauna and Andrea; his dear friend Joan MacLean of Marion Bridge; sister-in-law Jane Anne and her boys Nelson and Scott; niece Lisa and nephew Luc, both of Florida.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Edison; sister Theresa and niece Michelle.
Visitation will be today (Monday, March 2) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main Street. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3, 10 a.m. at St Anne’s Church with the Rev Leo Boone officiating. The interment will be at a later date in St John’s Cemetery.
