Mary Lavinia Willms

Of Charlottetown, P.E.I., passed away on February 27, 2015.
Born in Kentville in August 1920 she was the daughter of Frederick and Euphemia (Redmond) Driscoll. Mary grew up in Parkdale but moved to Ottawa in the 1940s to work. There she met and married Cornelius (Carl). After many years of relocating, Mary and Carl returned to P.E.I. and Mom became a familiar figure on the Heartz Road in East Royalty as she went for her daily walk. Mary was a true child of summer. She loved being outdoors in the sunshine, watching the birds and admiring the summer flowers. Neighbours would often see her napping in a lawn chair in the late afternoon sun. For many years she participated and reported on the annual Christmas bird count and was a member of the provincial and national nature federations. She attended many nature conferences across Canada and enjoyed guided trips in the US to add to her birding life list. She was an avid reader of mysteries and always included a succinct critique of the book inside the front cover. Crossword puzzles, the more difficult the better, were also on her list of favoured things to do.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Cornelius Willms; daughter, Ann MacGillivary; son, Fred (Wendy) Willms; daughter, Mary Ellen (Ewen) Gillespie; grandchildren, Jason and Matthew Gillespie and Ken MacGillivary (Alison); great-grandchildren, Ivy and Keir MacGillivary; and brother, Leonard (Elizabeth) Driscoll; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Charlotte (George) Clarke. She will be remembered with love and admiration.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. No visiting hours by request. Funeral and celebration of Mary's life to be held on Thursday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at Saint Pius X Church. Reception to follow.
