STEGMAYER, SHIRLEY B.
With sadness, her family announces the death of their mother and grandmother, Shirley (McCarthy) Stegmayer (nee O’Neil), formerly of Saint John, NB, on Sunday, March 1st, 2015 in Ottawa.
Shirley was blessed with two wonderful husbands, Leonard J. McCarthy (father of her children) of Saint John, who died at age 37 and Henry (Hank) Stegmayer of Ottawa who died at age 81. Dear mother of Deborah London (Don), Saint John, Maureen McCarthy, Quispamsis, NB and Shawn McCarthy, Ottawa. Predeceased by her son Paul L. McCarthy of South Mountain, ON and by her parents Oscar and Maude O’Neil of Saint John. Step-mother of Wendy Ferris (Bob), Ottawa, Cheryl Brewster (David), Bathurst, NB and Madeleine Stegmayer, Dartmouth NS. Fondly remembered by four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Shirley is also lovingly remembered by sisters Audrey McAllister (late Lloyd), Quispamsis, NB and Marilyn McAllister (late Beverly), Saint John, NB and Sandra Gordon (Paul), Central Greenwich, NB, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends in Saint John and Ottawa.
She was a former employee of N.B. Telephone Co. and Sears Canada. She was a volunteer with the Pastoral Care Team of St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa, the love and friendship of the Religious Sisters and residents enriched her life. She was a member of Canadian Council of the Blind (Ottawa Chapter).
Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Ottawa on Wednesday, March 4th from 12 noon to 3:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3891 Richmond Road, Ottawa on Thursday, March 5th at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Saint John, NB on Friday, March 20th at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations to St. Martin de Porres Church, St. Patrick’s Home or Nepean Senior’s Home Support would be appreciated.
