With joy and thankfulness we celebrate the life of Douglas Fraser Cowan, born April 21, 1956 and died March 4, 2015. Doug's fun loving nature, kindness, love for children, quiet strength, giant heart, and gentle soul will always be remembered by his devoted wife, Laura; the pride of his life, his five children: John, Douglas (Amy), Andrew, Meghann (Ted) and Laurel (Michael) and his beautiful granddaughter Alicia. Predeceased by his parents, John Furness and Elizabeth (Parsons); his father-in-law, Edward Anderson Newman; and his brothers: Robert and George. Forever in the hearts and minds of the mother who loved and raised him, Audrey (Swain) and his stepfather, John Dooley; his mother-in-law, Viola Newman; his brothers: Wayne, Darryl, Glenn and Ricky; and sisters: Debbie, Sandra, Judy, Sharon and Michelle. He also leaves a large circle of family and friends. The family will receive friends at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Friday, March 6th, from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. and Saturday, March 7th, 10a.m. - 12noon. Celebration to be held at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at 2:00p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
