We regret to announce the death of Mabel Elizabeth Colborne late of Stellarton, County of Pictou, Province of Nova Scotia.
Daughter of the late Laren P. McLaren and Ella Bella (Ross) McLaren of Moose River, Pictou County, Mabel was born on November 28, 1920. She graduated from The Nova Scotia Teachers College and taught school (primarily Junior High) for 36 years in the Collingwood area of Cumberland County retiring in 1978. Mabel was pleased with her Scottish heritage and took great pride in her profession as a school teacher. Her expertise was Math. She enjoyed curling, reading and going for drives. She was predeceased by her husband Eustace Colborne in 1999 and her beloved son and only child Dr. Robert Colborne in 2002.
Mabel was the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by sisters: Mary C. Cameron, Jessie (Kirk) Cameron, Bessie Burke; brothers: Alex, Henry, Fred, Charles. Two other siblings died in infancy.
She is survived by grandchildren Sarah Colborne-Penney, (NL), Robert Colborne and Max Colborne (PEI).
Special thanks to caregivers: Joan Osmond, Beverly Farrell, Dorothy Newell and Bonnie Hafey. Thanks as well to Dr. John Hickey, Reverend Charles McPherson, and the VON.
A brief wake will be held on March 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel Stellarton followed by a funeral service at the Home. Burial will take place at a later time in the Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
