It is with heavy hearts and trusting hands that the family of Thomas Clifford Mason release him to Lord God. Tommy died peacefully on the morning of March 5, 2015.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Clifford and Margaret (Lee) Mason.
Tom had worked in the coal mines for 39 years. He was a dragger man and a member of the rescue team that responded to the #12 Colliery fire on March 3, 1973. Tom played in men’s dart leagues and was an avid hunter and tarabish player. He also loved playing cards with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Yuhasz), to whom he was married 57 years; his seven children, all of whom he was close with, daughters, Lee Mason, Brantford, Ont., Betty (Kevin) Pastuck, Enfield, N.S., Maddy (Kevin) MacNeil, New Waterford, Donna, Beaumont, Texas, Lana (Gary) Johnston, Calgary, Alta., Mary Julia, New Waterford, and his only and special son Tim (Brenda). His 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren will miss his joking manner, his big smile and his tender heart.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Julia, as well as many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 6-9 p.m. A chapel service celebrating Tommy’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 11 a.m. in the McLellan Brothers Chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street, all are welcome. Burial will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
