Hines, William Harold “Bill”, age 72, of Wolfville (Windsor), passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at his home in Wolfville, after a lengthy illness. Bill was born in Windsor, on September 22, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur and Hazel (Anthony) Hines. Bill grew up, the youngest of a large family, playing hockey, baseball and keeping everyone on their toes. He studied auto mechanics at technical school and worked at Wood Motors, Halifax for a number of years. Bill was also a gifted salesman and worked at Nova Scotia Rambler and at Hawboldt’s Furniture, Windsor. In his later years, he was a mail route driver for Canada Post and had a small wood working business. He had a great sense of humour which helped to carry him through both his illness and his lifelong devotion to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bill always had a smile and a new joke to share. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. “Poppy” always made time for fishing, sporting events, concerts, or going for an ice cream. He was a great supporter of local hockey and could often be found in a rink on Friday and Saturday evenings. Bill was a friend of Bill W. for 28 years. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty (Hope); son, Terry (Lisa), Windsor; daughters, Susan Hines Kennedy (Frank), Halls Harbour; Debbie (Andy) MacLean, Hantsport; grandchildren, Jonathan Cleveland; Sydney (Gordon) and Joe (Mallory) Hines; Lydia and Ewan MacLean; brother, Norman; sisters, Gladys (Nelson) Ledgerwood; Geraldine; Connie (Elroy) Benedict; Muriel (Allan) Fraser. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Billy Cleveland; sisters, Joyce (Wallace) Hartt; Frances in infancy; foster sister, Mary (Earl) Shupe; brother-in-law, Art Benedict; and In-laws, Clyde & Libby Hope. There was no visitation. Arrangements were under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, (902-708-2232), 194 King St., P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. Special thanks are extended to the Annapolis Valley Branch of the VON for all the care shown to Bill during his illness. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in the Windsor United Church. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated, followed by a reception in the Windsor United Church Annex. Burial will be held at a later date.
