Margaret Catherine Calder, 95, of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
Born in Glace Bay, Margaret was the daughter of the late John James and Christine (MacPherson) MacDonald.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 71 years, Alex; three daughters, Katherine Ravanello, Vancouver, B.C., Jean MacLean, Sydney and Debbie Calder (John Haughn), Pleasantville, N.S.; four sons, Alex (Bonita), Sydney, Stewart (Janet), Sydney River, Carl (Patricia), Sydney Forks, and Peter (Judy), Sydney. Margaret is also survived by two sisters, Isabel (Harold) Harten, Sault St. Marie, Ont. and Mae O’Day, Sydney; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by one son, Bruce; one grandson, Michael James; three brothers, Eric, James and Thomas and one sister, Mary Rodina Comer.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 12, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday 11 a.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
