Passed away peacefully in the presence of his daughter on 7 Mar 2015 at Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion in St. John's, NL at age 87. Predeceased by brother, Frazer and half-sisters Cordelia & Selma Ford. Survived by Flora (nee Noseworthy) wife of 59 years, children Paul (Darlene), Valerie (Roger) and Bill (Danielle); nine Grandchildren Melissa, Nadine, Sheldon, Shane, Kyla, Alex, Sabreena, Nathalie and Nathan and one Great Grandson Mason. With a steadfast sense of duty, Hazen was a decorated veteran with an extensive military service. He was recognized for his service with the Merchant Marines by the Norwegian government during WWII and served in the Army with Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps during the Korean War. After service to his country abroad he returned home and served his community acting as the first Fire Chief for the Clarenville Volunteer Fire Department. Throughout his 36 years of employment with the Department of Highways as a machinist, he continued with part time military service with the Canadian Forces as a Canadian Ranger. Ever supportive toward fellow veterans and with utmost respect for those still serving, he was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Visitation will be at Fewer's Funeral Home on Memorial Drive Tuesday 10 March 2015 from 2 - 4pm and 5 - 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Clarenville United Church on Marine Drive Wednesday 11 March 2015 at 2pm. Hazen was a strong supporter of the Canadian Armed Forces and a lover of all animals, therefore the family would appreciate any donations be sent to the charity "Paws Fur Thought". They match military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) victims with service dogs to improve their quality of life and ability to function in society. It is requested donations by cheque be sent to:
