KOST “JOE” FERCHUK
March 16, 1938 – March 9, 2015
Kost “Joe” Ferchuk passed away peacefully in his sleep on the early morning of Monday, March 9, 2015 at the age of 76. Kost is survived by his loving family: his loving wife Margaret of fifty years; his daughters Karen and Colleen (Lionel Androsoff); his special grandchildren Kaitlin (Richard), Krystyn (Mike), Danielle and Brennan; his sisters Kay Truba, Vera (Gus Radis); his brother John as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Mary Ferchuk; his siblings Bill (Veronica) Ferchuk, Lee (Wes) Arnold, Nick (Roberta) Ferchuk, Lawrence Schell, George Truba, Sonya (Nick) Skakivitch; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Henri and Margaruite Villeneuve as well as many nieces and nephews. He attended a one school room house and completed his high school at Christopher Lake School. He went on to further his education at Moose Jaw Technical Institute where he earned his T.V. and radio repair diploma. He worked for Dennis Hinz for 10 years as a T.V. and radio repairman. He then went on to work for SED Systems in June of 1971 until his retirement in 1995. For the past 14 years he has been employed at River Park Memorial Chapel. In 1982 he became an official member of the Roman Catholic faith and was confirmed in the Lord’s name at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. He was involved in many different community and church organizations. He was the first president of the St. Michael Community School Council, as well as a member of the St. Michael Parish Council. Joe always loved working with his hands. He could always be found creating or building something with wood. For the past few years he has been working alongside his wife Margaret preparing the children for their sacraments. He made crosses that were presented to them on the completion of their journey. One of his greatest passions was watching his grandchildren play any sport that they were part of. He could always be seen at any of their hockey games, ball, volleyball or basketball games. He was always there with a proud cheer and a pat on the back. For the past 30 years he has been an avid Raider fan. He supported them through their ups and downs. A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 from St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 13 from St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 1505 – 13 Street West by Father Travis Mryheim. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that in lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
